GLOSSARY · DEFINITION

RevOps (Revenue Operations)

The discipline of running sales, marketing, and customer success on one governed data and process foundation — one market, one dataset, one operating cadence.

RevOps — revenue operations — is the discipline of running sales, marketing, and customer success on a single governed data and process foundation instead of three disconnected silos. One counted market, one reconciled dataset, one set of definitions, one operating cadence: that is what the function exists to provide.

The term matters because the silo problem is real money. Each go-to-market team traditionally kept its own list, its own definitions of a qualified lead, and its own reporting — so the CRM disagreed with the marketing platform, the forecast disagreed with both, and nobody could say how big the market actually was. RevOps consolidates that: 79% of B2B companies now report a formal RevOps function (State of RevOps 2025), and Google search interest in "RevOps" has for the first time passed both "Sales Ops" and "Marketing Ops" — while RevOps job titles still run well behind either. Interest is outrunning headcount, which is why the function is increasingly bought as a service rather than hired.

Growth Orbit practices data-grounded RevOps: the process work — routing, scoring, forecast hygiene, cadence — sits on a counted market matched to the CRM, not on whatever the CRM happens to contain. On one engagement, only 24% of an 18,775-account market was in Salesforce; RevOps built on top of that CRM would have governed a quarter of reality. Count the market first, fix the ground, then run the operation — that ordering is the difference between revenue operations and dashboard decoration. See RevOps-as-a-Service.
